      Playing With Fruits

COMO Group proudly unveils the eye-catching creations of Cédric Grolet, a first in Asia.

Starting this month, fans of the French pastry chef here and beyond can finally satiate their appetite for one of his edible fruit and flower-inspired sculptures at his first Asian shop in Singapore.

Not just desserts, Cédric Grolet’s surreal fruit pastries look as good as they taste. His visually pleasing trompe l’oeil creations are not only an expression of his dedication to aesthetics and exquisitely detailed techniques, but they have also earned him accolades such as the Best Pastry Chef in the World from Les Grandes Tables du Monde as well as an Instagram following of more than eight million.

Starting this month, fans of the French pastry chef here and beyond can finally satiate their appetite for one of his edible fruit and flower-inspired sculptures at his first Asian shop in Singapore. Housed within COMO Orchard, a lifestyle destination concept by the COMO Group, Cédric Grolet Singapore is the fourth shop in the world after the two in Paris and one in London. Located on level one, it seats 40 and is also available for takeaway.

Apart from his signature bestsellers such as the Paris Brest Flower, there will also be eagerly anticipated Singapore exclusives. Making its debut on the Singapore menu and leading to the Mid-Autumn festival is Grolet’s take on the traditional mooncake. Sold as a set, each mooncake seduces with a concoction of crunchy peanuts praline, banana bread, caramelised banana, light peanuts ganache and a thin shell of white chocolate and cocoa butter.

Complementing the mooncake is the dragonfruit, another Singapore-only item inspired by the sculptural tropical fruit. Crafted from dragonfruit gel, fresh dragonfruit and passionfruit, and light vanilla ganache coated in a thin shell of white chocolate and cocoa butter, this is, by Chef Grolet’s own admission, a technically challenging creation to make given the fruit’s irregular shape which does not allow a mould to be utilised.

Gourmands can also savour a selection of sandwiches and pastries such as croissants, flan and pain suisse, as well as a new viennoiserie, almond croissant. The icing on the cake in all his offerings? Grolet’s sparing use of sugar in each and every one of them.

Cédric Grolet is opening on Sept 14.
